Along the sacred Ganges basin in eastern Uttar Pradesh lies Bhadohi—revered worldwide as the historic “Carpet City” of South Asia. Originating in the 16th century when Persian master weavers settled along the Grand Trunk Road during the Mughal era, Bhadohi’s soil has nurtured an unbroken culture of vertical pit-loom weaving (Khaddi) for over four hundred years.
Established over thirty years ago in Bhadohi’s historic weaving hub of Maryadpatti (PIN 221401), Global Artist Loom was founded not as an impersonal trading intermediary, but as an authentic weaver-rooted atelier. While mass manufacturing adopted synthetic petroleum fibers and automated machine presses, our founders remained steadfast to the slow, sacred dignity of handmade loom craft.
Today, our atelier supports more than 1,200 rural master weavers (Karigars), traditional botanical dyers (Rangrez), and hand-shearing artisans (Katai). With knot densities reaching up to 400+ knots per square inch, every carpet represents months of rhythmic, patient finger-memory passed down across generations—delivering authentic floor art directly from our looms to international residences.

From Raw Highland Fleece to Architectural Heirloom
A master handmade carpet requires anywhere from 120 to 360 days of deliberate, step-by-step artisan devotion under the Bhadohi sun.
STEP 01
Fleece Grading & Hand-Spinning
Unprocessed indigenous Bikaneri wool and fine New Zealand fleece are carefully hand-carded and spun on traditional wheels (Charkha) to preserve the wool's natural protective lanolin.
STEP 02
Kettle Dyeing by Master Rangrez
Yarn hanks are kettle-steeped in small open vats using walnut husks, pomegranate rind, madder root, and non-toxic azo-free dyes, achieving subtle organic abrash and timeless color-fastness.
STEP 03
Loom Knotting (The Khaddi)
Mounted upon heavy timber vertical looms, Karigars knot individual tufts row by row guided by the rhythmic vocal or graphed Talim, packing each weft tight with heavy iron beaters (Panja).
STEP 04
River-Basin Washing & Terrace Sun-Curing
Woven carpets undergo multiple washes with natural plant soaps to purge loose fibers, clarify color depth, and activate natural wool luster, followed by sun-drying on tensioned terrace frames.
STEP 05
Hand-Shearing & Motif Carving (Katai)
Master shearers trim the pile with curved razor blades, leveling the surface with micron-level precision and hand-carving contour edges to give three-dimensional tactile depth to intricate designs.
